Description
Here we have a white and turquoise blue handkerchief vase. This is a slight change in direction for us insofar as it’s very subtle!
It is made with reactive glasses which means you get a colour change where the blue and the white glasses meet. It is decorated with straight lines, contrasted with crushed glass, and finished off with a blue powder ‘lip wrap’. Finally, the piece has been sandblasted after draping to create a soft, matte texture. It is only one sheet of glass thick, at 3mm, making it a delicate, almost ethereal piece of work.
The handkerchief vase is ‘draped’ rather than slumped: it is positioned on its mould as a flat piece, and then drapes itself around it when heated in the kiln.
This is a decorative piece as opposed to a functional vase. Its standing base is 6cm in diameter, measures 15cm at its widest point, and stands 12cm tall.
