Description
What do you think of when you think of The Rainforest? A canopy of large-leafed trees in a variety of greens, perhaps? Set against a deep, cobalt-blue sky? That’s certainly what we think of which is why we have named this delightful blue and green glass plate, ‘The Rainforest’.
This glass dish is a gorgeous mix of blue and green, opal and transparent glass. Blue and green are analogous on the colour wheel so any art piece using those colours will be harmonious and calming to the eye. That said, this dish is a riot of pattern! A truly stunning, visual piece.
We have made this plate using a variation on the ‘pattern bar’ technique. Glass is stacked in mixed widths, on top of a triangular mould. The headwork causes the glass to ‘drip’ down into the mould, creating a gorgeous mix of swirling, vibrant colour. The resulting block is then cut into pieces and reassembled in the kiln, forming a pattern, and fully fused. Dishes created this way will never be the same, therefore this piece is well and truly, one-of-a-kind.
